My mum was Night Sister at QMCH around the above dates.
She was full-time night Sister but I think had a period on days, when I and my brothers were little (around mid-60’s).
She was very close to a lady called Linda Riley, who I think remained in ‘Christmas Card Contact’ until my mother sadly died (Feb 2008).
I sincerely hope that you don’t mind my contacting you even though I was not a nurse there. I have truck-loads of memories of the place! Would often go into the wards with mum, my dad Carlton and I would take a walk in the evenings to walk her in, or in the mornings to walk her home.
And I’d be a bit spoilt by the nurses whenever I was there!
Christmas was always a lovely time because, although I’d have rather had my mum at home, the wards were always wonderfully festive, and I’d often spend a bit of time there, seeing Santa with the other children!
It made me grow up appreciating having my health, and my brothers. We are 5 siblings and all enjoy well-health without even a mild asthma between us. I qualified as a nurse in 1985 and have nursed (adults) ever since.
I am now a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Gastroenterology, nursing adults and children with Crohn’s disease and other Gastro conditions and I truly believe I owe my good standard to what I saw and heard from my mother, Sister Harewood.
